Cutting Instructions: Use a good mix of background fabrics for a pleasing look.
NOTE: Pattern refers to Blue fabrics (Light and Dark) however this could be any colour based on your choice.
Background:
(2) 4" squares - draw a diagonal line on wrong side
(8) 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"
(4) 1 1/2" squares
Medium and/or Light Blue
(4) 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"
(4) 1 1/2" squares
Dark Blue
(2) 4" squares
(1) 1 1/2" square
Sewing Instructions:
Make a 9-patch using (4) 1 1/2" Med/Light Blue squares and (1) 1 1/2" Dark Blue square. Place the Dark Blue square in the center. Make 1. Your block should measure 3 1/2" square

Make Half Square Triangles (HST) by placing (1) 4" Background square on top of (1) 4" Dark Blue square. Sew 1/4" on each side of line. Cut apart on line and press to Dark Blue.
Make 4. Square up to 3 1/2".

Sew (1) 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" Med/Light Blue strip between (2) 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" Background strips, lengthwise as shown. Make 4

Assemble your block as shown:
Your block should measure 9 1/2" unfinished. Check back in June for next block.
Optional Border Star Block #4 - You will need 4 of these blocks:
Cutting Instructions:
Background:
(20) 3 1/2" squares.
(4) 4 1/2" squares - draw diagonal line on wrong side (see note in instructions)
Light Blue:
(8) 4 1/2" squares - draw diagonal line on wrong side
Dark Blue:
(4) 4 1/2" squares
Sewing Instructions:
Make HST by placing (1) 4 1/2" Background on top of (1) 4 1/2" Dark Blue square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" on each side of drawn line. Cut apart on line and press to Blue. No need to square up yet. Make 8.
Make HST by placing (1) 4 1/2" Light Blue square on top of (1) 4 1/2" Light Blue square right sides together. Sew 1/4" on each side of drawn line. Cup apart on line and press. No need to square up yet. Make 8.
Cut each HST in half diagonally, opposite the seam line.
Match up the following units and sew together to make a QST. Square up to 3 1/2". Make 8 of each. Note the different spin of your blocks. When making the Border Star #5 blocks, be sure to match units that "spin" the same direction in the same block.
Assemble your block as shown. Make 2 of each. Note the "spin" that the Dark Blue unit makes. Your blocks should measure 9 1/2".
